POWERSTREAM PROJECT
 |
PowerStream, the electrical provider for Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham
and Aurora, opened its new Corporate Head office in Vaughan, Ontario on
March 26, 2008.
Commissioned by the Board of Directors of PowerStream, Architectural
Glass Artists Gordon Wright and Bernhard Viehweber teamed up with Multi
Media Artist and Painter Sheri Tenaglia to develop the conceptual ideas for
PowerStream’s West Atrium Lobby Wall.
Covering an area of 220 square feet of curved wall, this innovative display
combines four semi-relief gesso paintings, inspired by satellite images of
Powerstream’s service area. Screens of laminated and etched glass depict
elements of local infrastructure along with regional attractions and interactive
electrical components for employees and visitors.
“PowerStream envisioned an art wall that would be appealing and interactive
for their employees and the public. Anyone who walks by the art wall is
welcome to push the buttons on the control panel which enables them to
see the flow of electricity in their region. It visually illustrates, or you could
say brings home, what PowerStream does”, says artist Sheri Tenaglia.

The maps involve quite an innovative technique created by Sheri Tenaglia
which required the application of gesso and polymer onto panels (curved
to match the curvature of the wall) creating a topographical and textural
effect. After application, the gesso/polymer has to be sanded, chiseled and
sealant was then added before glazes of colour are applied. The end result
of the panels are a textural, abstracted, satellite perspective of each region
PowerStream services.
